We are finishing reading Charlotte's Web today. It is a really great book. We each had to present an oral report about a character we would want to be from the story. Here are our barn pictures.

Our plants are doing well. Some of them are getting taller and growing leaves. We continued to learn about multiple parts of the plants. For our design process, we researched and created a plant of our choice.

We were working with Dimitry to do our art project of La Terre. It took us three days to create the mosaic.

We made art of root vegetables that you can eat! They are different colours.

For math we have been learning about geometric shapes. We are making different geometric solids too. We worked a lot on problem solving and picking the right number operation.

For our study of Vikings, we learned that they made bread. We learned about their cooking utensils and how they make food. The women used to do all the cooking. They were able to make things with iron. They have two different types of boats, one for war and another for trading goods.

In French, we are starting to learn about aquatic animals. We have to practice a poem to present to the class. We made posters about the different sounds letters make in French words. (ai, on, ou, en, etc.)

In music we finished our recorder karate program. We are using Garage Band on the ipads to make a little song.

In gym we have been racing for track and field. We have also been playing soccer and dodgeball.

March Blog!

This morning, after reading a Robert Munsch book in French, we made desserts out of modelling clay. Tomorrow we will write about them.

We have been working on a French book, kind of like the Marvelous Me project we did, but in French. Two of the paragraphs that we wrote, we aren't allowed to say 'I' or 'we' and we had to convince people to like the subject. This is called persuasive writing. We also wrote a paragraph about an animal.

A few days ago we started on a projects with the iPads. Mme picked groups for us and we have special countries to research information. We will use Keynote to present our projects when we are done.

We learned about China. We celebrated Chinese New Year and we got an envelope with chocolate money in it. We also got to try a snack from China, dried melon with sugar. We learned about the folktale that told about the 4 dragons becoming the 4 rivers. We learned how to use chop sticks. We used the iPads to research information about China and present it to the class. Mme taught us how to say words and numbers in Mandarin, we also practiced writing characters. Mme O. brought in some statues from China and money from Asia. The statues from China are from the terracotta army.

In math, Mme has been playing a game to help us learn our multiplication faster. We learned division.  In math class we have been learning compatibles to 100. We've been studying how you can make shapes with number patterns. We had to make shapes into patterns. We learned repeating, increasing and decreasing patterns.

We read books to our book buddies. We had a list of questions and we interviewed our book buddies. Then we wrote a paragraph about our book buddies. We learned about poems and the words that rhymed were in a pattern.

We made an art project where we had to design a bridge using paper. We played badminton in the gym.

We went to the symphony. The cool part was that we got to sing along and we learned the song The Waving Flag. We wrote in our journals about the symphony. Choir students went to a church to sing in the Choir Festival. They sang Jim Along Josie and L'Oranger. The choir won silver!

January News by the Students of Room 102!

We are learning multiplication. To do a multiplication, you should think about it the easy way, for example 2 x 4 is 2 groups of 4 which is 8! The way Mme first taught us multiplication is for us to imagine groups of circles with objects in them that equal what you need to do. For multiplication we have a book that's called La multiplication where we practice. Mme gave us partners to make multiplication questions with pictures that show the answers on the iPads using Book Creator.

We have learned how to make an Inukshuk. Inukshuks are for when people can't find their way home, they show the way. Another art project we did was mitten art. We looked at beaded mittens and moccasins for the designs.

We started science centres which are really fun to do because you get to work with a group to discover new things. There are totem poles in the science centres and some people learned that totem poles have more than one face. We have been studying First Nations so most of the centres have that theme.

We are learning about building structures and different kinds of structures.  We watched a movie of Bill Nye the Science Guy. Mme read us a book where we would try to find the structures.

In French we wrote a paragraph about our stuffies on Fuzzy Buddy Day. We are starting a study of Robert Munsch books also. Mme DeSousa has also read us some Marc Tetro books.

We have been learning about fractured fairy tales so we can write our own. A fractured fairy tale is a mixed up fairy tale. You can have characters from different fairy tales in the same story. They are usually funny. Mme explained it to us like a broken fairy tale.

Our hockey art for the winter concert.
