May

This is when we were doing a math problem using white boards. The problem was that there was a certain amount of people and we had to find ways for them to sit at tables of different sizes.

Here we are taking a picture with Constable Alanna. She was teaching us about bullying. She is Mme DeSousa's sister's friend, they went to the Police Academy together. She is interesting.

We are seeing what kinds of seeds we have. This one spins like a helicopter when you drop it. It's cool to watch. This is the seed of a tree and if you plant them correctly you'll get more of them!

Here we are celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Our teacher made us food from Mexico and we ate different kinds of food. There was music and we went on the iPads to research different kinds of food in Mexico. We ate tortilla chips, guacamole, taquitos, mango juice and salsa. Lots of people liked it and some did not.

We are playing math games with Mateo and Alexis, Mme DeSousa's son and daughter. It was really fun! We got to do different math stations. The stations were iPad games, Xtra Math, headbands with playing cards, Smiley Face Game and the Making 100 Game!

Here we are at Seed Survivor. They taught us about how plants grow. We got to plant a sunflower seed and take it home. Inside the trailer we got to play plant games and watch plant videos. There was also a model of plants where if you press a button it will rain on the plants. They were really fun! We also got worm and bee tattoos. One group was inside while the other group was outside and then we switched.

Here Richelle Scott, or North Star came to our school to talk to us about treaties. We learned that treaties were used to make peace between people. People needed lots of things like food, water and education. We learned that after the treaty they smoke the ceremonial pipe because it's a special occasion. She also sang with us and played her drum. We talked about the symbols for treaties.

This is when we made shapes in different colours.

Here we are doing math problems in groups on the walls. We were doing a problem with a certain number of legs and heads for dogs and birds.

Here North Star is talking to us about Treaty Day and what activities we are going to do. This was the first Treaty Day for our school. It was awesome, we were very happy!

This is the reading station. We read books about First Nations people and traditions.

Here we were writing our names to sign our school treaty.

Here we are in our home base and we are eating bannock that our friend Aiden made for us!

Here we are listening to stories about objects from Buffalo Bill. You see the buffalo fur. There was something wrong with the buffalo. He said that you can heal people with objects. He healed Mme's back using a rattle. He took away negative energy with the eagle wing. The coolest part about this is that they didn't have to go to the top of the tipi to build it. It's very hot in the tipi. He told us about the drum, one side represents the sun and the other side represents the moon. The tipi can withstand a tornado! He told us a story about cutting a cloud in half with an ax. He told us a story about a turtle.

Here we are playing some drums with Richelle Scott and we learned songs.

This is us rock painting. We can paint the rocks with things from nature or First Nations symbols. Rocks are grandfathers because they've been on the earth since the beginning.

Here we are writing about our day in our Treaty Day journals.

Here we are doing smudging with Pam and listening to story-telling.

At the end of the day everybody in the school was holding hands and singing the song we learned.

Here we are learning about Chimney Swifts. Chimney Swifts are a type of bird that live in the chimney of the school. They are an endangered species. Our school has lots of them that live in our chimney.

We are working on plant habitats. We are making dioramas using paper and modelling clay!

We hope you enjoyed our blog this month!
