September

Our back to school bulletin board included some apples we coloured using warm and cool colours.

Here we are playing a math game. We started out by counting to 100 as the challenge but then we played using skip counting and going from 100-200. There are many variations of this game to make it more challenging as we use bigger numbers and practice skip counting by different numbers!

Here we are estimating the number of beads in our cup and then counting them. We know that counting by 1 takes a long time so we use grouping instead!

Here we are estimating with our groups and working together to count the collection.

Patterns are everywhere! We are building different kinds of patterns. We are creating increasing and decreasing patterns and looking for them in our everyday life and environment.

We reviewed our short vowel sounds and each group presented a funny story to help us remember those sounds when we are reading and spelling.

We write in our journals!

We do power reading each day!

Mme read us some books. We are all smart cookies!

David A. Robertson wrote this book and we learned some new words in Swampy Cree.

We designed orange shirts and talked a lot about the importance of the orange shirt story. We watched some videos to learn information about residential schools and land acknowledgements.

We read about Terry Fox in French and sang a song about him.

We painted some repeating patterns for our backgrounds.

We wrote French paragraphs about what we did over the summer holiday.

We made a collage of the things we like and will be doing some more French writing. We learned what a silhouette is.

After watching a STEM presentation, we made basic and supersonic paper airplanes and tested how far they fly.

We are studying habitats and communities in science so we sketched a flying bird.

We went outside to make observations about the animals that live around the school and the habitat they live in. We wrote and drew about what we saw, smelled, heard and touched.

In social studies we are learning about provinces, continents and oceans!

September has been a busy month!
