January

Here is our finished owl art, in the style of Norval Morrisseau.

Here is our Elise Gravel bulletin board. We read her stories and wrote paragraphs in French about the animals in her books.

Here are our mittens we made with dots to represent beads. We read The Moccasin Goalie to inspire us.

We also created Inukshuks for art after reading Un Inukshuk solitaire.

We made different designs of rooftops and tested them with weights to see which one was the strongest.

We made tipis with sticks and a leather tie. We are using many materials from the science crate that we borrowed from the University of Manitoba.

We looked at beading designs.

We looked at different materials for making structures.

We also made the archway of an igloo. Later we drew an igloo in our sketchbooks.

We tested plastic, leather and canvas to see which one absorbs water.

We folded paper to see which one was stronger. The triangle was stronger!

We made posters for our play about the three little pigs.

We presented the play to our class in French.

We are reading fractured fairy tales.

Fractured fairy tales are fairy tales with changes, mixing characters or told from a different point of view.

We are practicing retelling the beginning, middle and end of the stories.

We are working on alphabetical order!

We are working on multiplication in math. We learned many new games to practice and we did some problem solving on the mini white boards.

We are studying our favourite countries that we were allowed to pick. We did research online and at the library. We are starting to create Keynote presentations using the iPads.

December

Here are our gingerbread cookie designs:

After we decorated, we wrote instructions on how to decorate a gingerbread cookie in French. We did a lot of writing this month. We wrote more French paragraphs about an animal of our choice, with the information we learned from the Elise Gravel books we've read. In English we wrote letters to Santa to convince him to hire us for an elf job. We also wrote about our family and friends.

We watched Mme Diva's French concert and we did some Kahoot quizzes about French vocabulary, math and continents and oceans.

We read books about the continents and looked for interesting facts we could share on a poster.

We learned how to use number frames and number lines on the iPads to help us solve problems and to do addition and subtraction. We solved problems that had many different solutions. We used blocks and tiles to help us and we used tables to show our solutions.

We created a plan and then built structures to help solve problems for Santa. Here are some of our creations:

We did many art projects including making holiday cards for senior citizens.

Have a safe and happy holiday!

November

We are reading Wonder. It is really good so far!

We are doing an author study of Elise Gravel. She writes and illustrates all of her books. She lives in Quebec.

We are working on beading our memory pouches. It is hard work but we are getting better and better each time!

We read a story about peace. Then we wrote about what peace means to us and we put all of our answers on the bulletin board.

We wrote a recipe for peace with Mme Hernandez.

We talked about our responsibilities at home and at school and made a poster.

We worked together to solve puzzles.

We read many books about refugees.

We studied artist Norval Morrisseau and used pastels and paint to create our own owls.

We still have free time on Fridays if we are done all of our work. We like to build, draw, create and play!

We learned how to magnetize a paperclip.

We learned different ways to create static electricity.

We created mazes and used magnets to help move our objects through the maze.

We tested different materials to see which ones would be attracted to static electricity.

We played math games using the Power of Ten cards.

We use the library when we have centers.

We use manipulatives to help us figure out math problems.

We use the iPads to do Reflex Math, RAZ-Kids, Je lis, je lis and Epic. We are learning some new math games on the iPads as well.

We used Bananagrams to help us make words and find the big word when Mme gave us mixed up letters.

We read a book called Art All Around us and we wrote what new things we learned.

We played charades!

We did more journal writing.

We are starting to learn about maps, continents and oceans.

We love to go to the library to pick out new books.

We hope you have a wonderful day and we hope you enjoyed our November blog entry. See you again in December!!
